Suriname travel Tips
The beating heart of the Amazon

Customer from Germany:
Just returned from Suriname and enjoyed an amazing week at the hotel. From the staff to the service, food, complimnetary first class business center, great out door pool and bar. The hotel is brand new and top notch. The rooms are very nicely furnished and the best are the beds. We never slept better in any other hotel and we travell a lot. The mattress poillows and duvee are amazing. We never wanted to wake up. The locationj is great and only 5 min from the center. The hotel offeres a complimentary Shuttle service and is very convenient. We would not like to stay in the center because it’s noisy and all the other hotels seemed to be not so clean. We truly enjoyed it’s location and the hotel offeres rest, relaxation and fitness. If you stay in Suriname better stay at the Mariott. Best hotel in town.
Customer from th USA:
Not easy to get to Suriname from the US. At least two flights to this formerly Dutch country on the Northeast edge of South America. Main city, Paramaribo is only 10 kilometers south from the Caribbean Sea (but 1 hour’s drive from the airport!) and is a combination of old Dutch colonial (the downtown is a historic site, which leads to some stasis in the ability to “improve” the infrastructure) and hectic, upgrading, developing country. Almost everyone speaks Dutch, English and the local patois and folks are extremely friendly.
.
Arrived very late at nite after a long day of travel and was more than pleased to be at a Courtyard (my favorite brand). Despite the tropical fauna, the drive-on-the-left (not the middle!) lane, and the foreign culture, this was like than every other Courtyard I’ve been too. Maybe better.
.
Clean, very new property, right on the Suriname River and Anton Drachtenwag – which is the main road just north of the downtown. Stocked pantry, pleasant in-hotel dining (food in Suriname is extremely diverse, fresh and very good!), and a terrific business center with a nicely-stocked color printer! Many folks who stayed at the Toraico (the older, grand hotel of Paramaribo) realized they should have stayed here.
.
Staff was pleasant, well-trained and eager to please. Made me feel welcome. Rooms were spacious and very nicely decorated. Elevators worked better than a lot of hotels. Ice machine had plenty of ice. All the good stuff that one takes for granted in the US but doesn’t always get in developing countries.
.
Internet was a bit slow, but this may have been a country-wide thing, not the hotel. I should’ve used the pool to refresh — my fault.
Customer from the USA:
I stayed at the Courtyard Marriott Paramaribo for 4 days in August and I must say I had a very good experience. I have visited a few other courtyards, mostly in the US and to my understanding the one in Suriname just recently opened. The service was great! the girls at the front desk and the waiters/bartenders were very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the food and drinks,I thought it was very good but maybe a little pricey. The rooms were excellent and the facility was nice and clean, the only down fall is the locacation
Average price: $117
