Suriname travel Tips
The beating heart of the Amazon

Visitor from Holland:
We stayed in this hotel for nearly three weeks. It was great. The hotel is situated in the city center in a historic building that has been renovated. It looks superb from the outside and it is modern and comfortable on the inside. The rooms are quite big, clean and comfortable. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is fine.
All this for a good price.
Visitor from Amsterdam:
Decided on this hotel based on the reviews I had read here, and I was not disappointed. The hotel booked the taxi service from the airport for me, and included this as part of the room fee. The staff were very courteous and friendly. No complaints there. The room itself was a little small, but with good amenities. Good airco system (much needed!) and the noise levels from outside were not too loud, considering the hotel looks onto the busy Waterkant area. At the end of the corridor is a spacious balcony area looking directly onto the Waterkant and the Suriname river – beautiful views.
Breakfast was a continental style buffet with breads and cheese, cold meat, fruit etc. The bread was a little hard, but did not spoil the rest of the breakfast. All in all, a very nice, quaint hotel with a great setting in the picturesque area of Paramaribo. Definitely recommended.
Visitor from Curacao:
Dear staff of La Petite Maison,
We hereby want to express our findings about our stay at your hotel.
It was in one word Fantastic, very attentive and nice personnel.
The hotel and the rooms were very clean and the service was excellent.
Every morning we started the day with a good prepared breakfast.
Also I enjoyed my cup of coffee in the afternoon.
Many thanks to the supervisor/ the general manager/ Vanessa/ Joanne / Monique / Cheryl and of course all the others which I do not remember their names.

MY sister Betty recommended this gem in Paramaribo and I was not disappointed at all. I have stayed at the Kransnapolsky, Eco Inn and Guesthouse Alberga before. You get what you pay for. The breakfast is is awesome, the staff is friendly and this B and B is historical going back to the 1800s. It overlooks the Suriname River, giving you awesome sunsets in the histori cal part of Parbo not far from Fort Zeelandia. Their free passes to the pool of the Torarica was another plus. Great staff!!! Great Country, Suriname is on the rise!!
Visitor from Bonaire:
We stayed for 7 nights in April 2009 in the small hotel near ‘Waterkant’. Wonderful!! An old building dating back to the 1820′s. Friendly staff, clean and good rooms. It’s location is perfect. Much better than the over the top luxurious Thorarica (als Royal) and much less expensive.

New York
I just returned from Suriname, i spent two weeks travelling to the the interior and holidaying inParimaribo. I spent my first few days at a hotel in Parimaribo and was not happy there. I was lucky to find The La Petite on the Watekant. I am from New York City, the La Petite was absolutely beautiful, it is a historical building that was perfectly restored. The service, and staff was well trained, helpful, and warm. The rooms are beutiful, clean, with just the amenities i needed. It remined me of a beautiful boutique Hotel in Soho or Chelsea New York.
My stay there was the best decision i made, just waking up in the moring and looking at the River, and hearing music in the evening was great.
I am planning to return for the Jazz festival in October.
Parimaribo is a great place to visit.
- Liked — it was convenient to everything it was in a historical area, staff great. It was beautiful and a place like this is not always available to all travellers. Its a Histoical Landmark.
- Disliked — there was nothing to make a negative comment about.
Visitor from Amsterdam:
We’ve stayed one week at La Petite Maison, a hotel in an historical building on the ‘Waterkant’ in Paramaribo. The hotel overlooks the Suriname river and is located in the centre of Paramaribo, just a few meters from the Independence place (Onafhankelijkheidsplein) and other historical sites.
La Petite Maison is a small hotel with excellent service. The rooms are comfortable and are equipped with all comforts like airconditioning, television, WiFi. In the front rooms, overlooking the ‘Waterkant’ and the Surinameriver, one might expect some noice from traffic in the early evening, on the other hand the these rooms give access to the veranda on the first floor where one can enjoy the views over the river to the ‘Fort Zeelandia’ and ‘The Jules Weijdenbosch Bridge’. Enjoy a walk at the Waterkant in the evening and visit the small ventures there selling good local food and refreshments.
- Liked — The comfort in a historical building and the views over the ‘waterkant’ and Suriname river
- Disliked — At some level, the traffic noice in the early evening
Cozy hotel in safe, convenient location.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Everyone could speak English. Some staff needed a bit more training in procedures, however.
Room spotless; en-suite bathroom facilities brand new, with good water pressure and temperature regulation; new, quiet AC worked perfectly; bed very comfortable. As a light sleeper, though, I could hear music playing on the Waterkant all night.
Decent breakfast included eggs, meat, bread, jam, cheese, muesli, fresh fruit, juice, coffee and tea.
On-site travel agency helpful with booking flights and allowing free email access to guests. Business center said to be coming soon.
I’d be very happy to return here; it felt alot like home!
- Liked — staff, cleanliness
- Disliked — street noise
